Ford Escape (hybrid) failed miserably after trvlng 60km to pick us up.
Next day a good old 3/4 ton Jimmy (GMC) extricated the scrawny little
rice-burner from the muck without using 4WDR.

Unfortunatley,
that was last fairly good day of shooting.	Weather deteriorated to
point of tornado warnings.	100kmph winds knocked down half dozen trees
in my hosts driveway. They even shut down the Chuckwagon races at the
Stampede!

One good memory was my host's sister-in-law was
visiting from Florida. Her laugh made me think she should be riding a
broom. Being a gentleman, I cautioned her that it was dangerous
terrain and she should stay out of the way. Of course she did not heed
my advice and promptly sank butt deep in the mosquito breeding grounds.
Another person took some photos and vids but refuses all my offers of
good money to provide me with a copy....darnit! The photographer fears
the vid may show up on the "Tube".

We've tried Hornady's but for some inexplicable reason, our Savages
prefer the Noslers.
I was in process of building a .260 Remington
for my host in Alberta, however he seems to have his mind made up for a
new Savage in .338 Lapua Magnum. All I can do is shake my head as he
is very recoil shy. He adamantly claims the included brake reduces
felt recoil to that of a light .308.
We used to have to qualify
with a Sporter weight .308 Win and following a course of fire of forty
rounds, it was not uncommon for several of my men to have bruised
shoulders as just uniform shirts were allowed to be worn.
My host
assumes that I shall do the reloading for him as well. In the final
analysis, the fault may be my own as I am the one that exposed him to
shooting a .338 LM (Heavy 36 pound with after-market brake) several
years ago and that rifle's recoil was extremely light.
What
someone needs to invent is a portable shooting platform about 15/20
foot deck.	Something one could disassemble and throw in the back of a
p/u within five minutes. For 2% of ur gross and a couple of
prototypes, you may have this idea!

Not that its much better but I stick with the 55gr B-Tips in my 250. I also prefer Nosler over Hornady (thought I have lots of both). They are boat tail with the corresponding flight advantage and they load somewhat easier. The base is also solid copper so there is one piece that stays intact, which is interesting but not likely to add anything to performance. I'm looking to build a long range rifle and am considering a 6.5 or similar. I hope to go after some larger varmints with this one.

Longest shots we have recorded are around 320Y with both 50s &55s. Several yrs ago did up some 69 Sie HPBT Matchkings, but drop from muzzle is around 7.5 feet @ 600Y. Even those heavier projectiles do not buck wind well. If my memory is correct, even a very mild breeze caused windage correction of more than 21 inches. I still retain some of those what I call Match Grade rounds, but hesitate to dispose of them as they took me so long to load.

consider our rifles 300M max and that is on a very calm day. Where we
shoot coupled with the time of year when grass provides a natural
blind, shots beyond 350 are a rarity. That is why the .308 accompanies
us.

Just back from Alta. Several things learned, Subaru 4WHDR does not cut-it on Alta horse ranch and the couple of hundred "Grenades" I loaded did not perform at distance. In fairness, the 50 grainer did manage to deflate a badger at 292 Yards and it did become fairly windy to the extent that the .308 did not fare much better. The next day when reverting to our Nosl B/Ts, the kill-ratio virtually quadrupled if not quintupled.

I really like Leupold. I've never had a problem with a Leupold scope. All my scopes are Leupold. Everything I've ever bought that was less than Leupold has had to be replaced with a Leupold. There are better scopes, but they are REALLY expensive.
