Frequently Asked Questions

I can't log in, even with the correct username and password. Could McAffe Privacy Service be part of the problem?
    Yes.

We have had a number of users on several different RealizationEngine-based sites that have been unable to access with site with McAffe Privacy Service enabled. Depending on the version, some have been able to specify that the SRM be allowed to place cookies, others have had to disable McAffe Privacy Service (but leave the other security features enabled) in order to access the site.

Do I have to create an account to post a message/question?
    Yes.

Because of the controversial nature of this site, accounts allow at least some semblance of accountability since a valid e-mail address is required for each account.

Should I log in every time I visit the site?
You'll find that being logged in when visiting the site is by far the most efficient way to view the site. The RealizationEngine is, in effect, a user-based system unlike other "message boards" which are message-based. Each user will be presented with a view talored for them based on their preferences (look under "account maintenance") and their last visit to the site.

(Note: There is no way to track users with the system.)

Will my e-mail address be published on the site?
    No.

The only individuals with access to your e-mail address are the site administrator, and the account owner (so that you can change your e-mail address in the system if you e-mail address changed in the future.)

Why can I not access some of the other folders?
Some of the folders (Classified Ads, Humor) are restricted to "members" only. The restriction is based on group permission. You must be logged in in order to have access to those folders. Also, if your account is new, the administrator will add you to the "General Discussion" group as soon as possible. You will receive a notification via e-mail when your account has been added to the group.

Why can't I post to any of the folders?
Folder write access is managed sperately from folder read access. Anyone can read most of the folders, but the only folder that non-group members can write to until the admin has added them to the "General Discussion" group is the root folder. As soon as you are added to the "General Discussion" group, you will have full access to the site.

What's the status of the Varmint Hunters' List (vhl@groups.yahoo.com) ?
There is no change in the status of the VHL. The VHL remains as a constant resource for the varmint hunting community.

The SRM site is an "independent extension" of the VHL community. because of the design of the site, it will be able to allow a larger number of participants than an e-mail list can typically sustain, and will allow different kinds of interaction.

We see the two technologies as being very complimentary as opposed to competitive.

My question isn't answered here. Who do I contact?
