Trip description:
I went home to visit my parents near Great Falls, MT this June. Since they
have a few acres of ground squirrel infested hay fields I took along my
trusty 22-250 and a some brass. My dad and I sat down for a couple evenings
and loaded up a few hundred. The load is 55gr Nosler ballistic tip driven by
35gr of Varget. Deadly accurate load. The rifle is a Tikka T3 varmint
stainless with a cheap Bushnell 3X9 scope (temporary solution). Included is
a picture of the 100 yard sight in target for this load.
Most of the ground squirrels were from 50 to 150 yards but some were a bit
over 200. One hit spread one over an area of about 30' diameter. Very
effective load. Next year, prairie dogs!
