10. Me with red jacket and red fox. "This was definitely too cold a day to go hunting. So Don H. from Christopher Lake, SK, and I went for a drive with our varmint rifles anyway. It was about forty below and blowing, and it had been that way for a day or two already. Usually we could expect to see a couple of coyotes in a day, and we'd consider that to be good for that area near home. But because of the predators were in need of more calories (my assumption) they were out in numbers. During about a four hour drive we saw approximately a dozen all totaled. This fox was less than a hundred and fifty yards out and on my side of the vehicle--so that made it my shot. Down went the window, out went the rifle, down went the fox, and out went Ken to fetch it. (If you're a game warden, read that last sentence as, 'I parked by the side of the road, walked over to farmhouse a mile and a quarter away for permission to shoot, returned, and with Don's assistance, crossed the fence, lay down in the snow, waited 'til the fox sat down, checked my backstop, then shot him.') In the relatively short time it took to go out and pick up the fox, I got frostbite on my cheeks. Oh, well, maybe that fox made somebody a nice, warm balaclava! <G>"
