14. Don H. blowing his crow call. "Here's the person that I would nominate for the title of 'World's Best Crow Hunter'. It would amaze me what he knew about getting them to come to the call. I once saw him walk out to a couple of crows in a clump of trees in a field (I was watching from the vehicle). It was really windy that day (hey, we're talking about Saskatchewan, remember-it's always windy, but this day was more so). The crows let him get to within about 75 yards and then took off downwind. Don continued into the bush and commenced a-callin'. Damned if those crows didn't turn around and start flying back. Now, imagine crows fighting the wind, flying low to the ground, and only progressing about six inches per wingsstroke-and getting blown back four inches on each upstroke. Those guys seemed desperate to return. Bang, bang. Two dead birds, and two puffs of feathers that probably didn't come to ground 'till somewhere in the Arctic. I was doing about average if I could shoot about half of what he did in a day-and we had equal opportunity. It was a sad day for me when he hung up his shotgun (a Win 101 for those of you who like to know such things)."
