3. Rifle over my shoulder, dragging a coyote. "This picture should give you a good idea of how it's sometimes necessary to dress during a Saskatchewan winter. I was out hunting with Dale M. from Birch Hills, SK. We separated and each headed in different directions. I was calling from the trees you can see behind me. The weather was cold enough that I left my mask on (my own design) even though the trek across parts of the field was rather arduous. The thing that I remember best about this coyote was how he ran towards me through the snow. Kinda like a powerboat going though waves. Snow was flying off to the sides as he leaped through it on his way in (it was a couple of feet deep and soft). The snow glistened in the sun. It was one of those days when it seems you can see forever. I carry an ice-hockey skate-lace with me to use for dragging coyotes or foxes, and it does very nicely if I decide to hang them from a tree to skin them right away (there's a quick-release knot that I use even with heavy gloves on). The rifle's my Middlestead."
