5. Carrying a coyote on a pole. "I'd recently begun serious predator hunting with Ken B. from the St. Louis area of SK. Up to this time I'd done most/all of the calling and we'd shared the shooting (our rule, when calling, was, 'If you know you can make the shot, then shoot.') This was the very first coyote Ken B. called and shot without my assistance. We were calling the South Saskatchewan River valley, and as you may notice there are plenty of coniferous trees in that area. It may not look like it, but it was close to a mile to the valley from where that picture was taken-a long walk. We felt that we were better camouflaged in our canvas snowmobile suits rather than in whites. It obviously worked. Ken B. is a southpaw and prefers lever action rifles (a somewhat underrated varmint rifle action, in my opinion). Something that he came up with that I consider on par with sliced bread is a foam pad sewn into the seat of the suit. We used the blue, closed-cell foam pads that you frequently see sold for placing under your sleeping bag. I shaped mine to go part way down the back side of each leg, and most of the way up my butt to my waist. An outer piece of canvas is sewn on to keep everything in place. That way, when sitting in the snow, your butt never gets cold, and snow doesn't stick to your butt and melt when you get back in the vehicle (and then re-freeze when you go back out) especially if wearing the white, outer nylon shell. Try it, you'll like it."
