8. Me with green Suzuki and red fox. "This fox was quite cooperative. I'd spotted him out in a field that had virtually no cover and yet was able to approach within about 200 yards. After that he started to match me yard for yard. No problem 'cause the Middlestead was basically dead on out to 300 yds. One relatively simple shot and it was lights out. A few things about this picture: 1. You may notice the masking tape on the end of my barrel. I keep that there for whenever I am in need of something to prevent snow from entering the muzzle. When fired, the air pressure ahead of the bullet blows the tape away before the bullet arrives. 2. You may also notice the sling attachments. I had one attachment at the end of the forestock, one just ahead of the magazine well, and one in the traditional place on the buttstock. By using the forward two while shooting (something I learned to do with my very first big game rifle, a .303 Enfield-and something that some Palma 1000 yard competitors still use) I could get very steady. Better than a bipod, in my opinion. 3. I'd had a number of experiences when quiet communication between myself and a hunting buddy would have been useful. So I got one of those two-way radio rigs that motorcyclists use and sewed pockets, etc. into my white hats. You can see the cover I made for the antenna in the picture. It's a great idea but I don't use it much-too many things just get to be too many things! Don P., a VHA member from south of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, was hunting with me that day. Can you recognize him from the shadow? <G> By-the-way, that's my second Suzuki truck-I like 'em and I'm on my third now."
